Help Us Build What’s Next
The Yates Community Center has always been built around one idea: our community is stronger when people have a place to come together. Now, we have an opportunity to create that place on a scale that will impact our community for generations.
Your gift is not simply helping us finish a building. It is helping us build a community within. Every gift brings the project closer to completion.
Every contribution to the capital campaign helps turn walls and open spaces into opportunities for:
- A child to discover a new sport
- An older adult to walk safely through the winter
- A teenager to find a place to belong
- Families to spend time together
- Neighbors to meet neighbors

We would not be where we are today without the incredible generosity of our supporters. Every dollar contributed to our campaign brings us closer to the full build of our new center.
Expand the Vision
A Vision That Has Grown With Our Community
Since the Yates Community Center expansion was first envisioned, construction costs have risen significantly. We see the impact of rising prices everywhere, from the grocery store to the cost of building materials, equipment, and labor.
We are excited about what is taking shape and proud to be building a Center that Yates County can enjoy for generations.
Completing Phase 1 means we can open the doors and begin putting this incredible new space to work for our community. The phase will help us complete:
- The indoor turf
- The multipurpose flooring
- The work necessary to obtain our Certificate of Occupancy
The two flexible recreation spaces will give the YCC the ability to begin offering year-round sports, recreation, fitness, leagues, programs, and community activities.
Once the building is open, we need to equip it for play! This phase gives our community the tools to use our new space:
- Protective netting around activity areas
- Reestablish green space for the first sports field
- Equipment for baseball, basketball, pickleball, volleyball, lacrosse, soccer, and other recreational programming
Phase 2 will physically and symbolically bring the Yates Community Center together. This phase includes:
- A new atrium and connector
- Donor wall
The new atrium and connector will unite the existing fitness center with the new facility, creating a welcoming entrance and natural gathering place for members, families, visitors, and community partners.
Our donor wall will proudly highlight the contributions of our community in the atrium. More than a hallway between two buildings, this space will become the heart of the Center, a place to arrive, meet, gather, and feel connected to everything happening at the YCC.
The YCC vision has always extended beyond athletics. Phase 3 will create flexible spaces for education, recreation, enrichment, and social connection. The phase includes:
- Mezzanine
- Community rooms
Our community has already expressed tremendous interest in opportunities ranging from arts and educational classes to social activities and games such as mahjong. These rooms will give us space for workshops, youth programs, clubs, meetings, lifelong learning, arts programming, community partnerships, and simply spending time together.
This phase brings the learn and connect pieces of our vision to life in an entirely new way.
Acoustic improvements will help ensure that multiple programs and activities can take place at the same time while maintaining a comfortable and functional environment throughout the building.
The Yates Community Center is proud to be a hub for many seniors and also a partner of Mozaic and Catholic Charities. Acoustic improvements will allow all people to comfortably use the space.
Additionally, as the Center becomes busier, acoustic paneling will help manage sound throughout the large recreation spaces and create a better experience for athletes, spectators, instructors, families, and community members.
Future site improvements will enhance accessibility, functionality, outdoor spaces, and the overall experience of visiting the Yates Community Center campus. Included are:
- Parking lot paving
- Outdoor lighting and safety
These improvements will help bring the indoor and outdoor portions of the property together and continue transforming the YCC into a welcoming, accessible community destination.
Aquatics remain part of the YCC’s long-term vision. While a pool is not included in the current construction phase, our larger plan preserves the opportunity to bring community aquatics to Yates County in the future.
A pool could significantly expand opportunities for swimming lessons, fitness, recreation, competitive swimming, water safety, rehabilitation, and programming for people of all ages.
It is a big vision, and one we hope to pursue as the YCC continues to grow.

Frequently Asked Questions
Questions? We’re Glad You Asked.
A project of this size naturally comes with questions. As plans have evolved, we have continued to listen to our community, respond to changing needs, and make thoughtful decisions about how to bring this vision to life. Here are answers to some of the questions we hear most often.
The Yates Community Center is constructing a new 35,000-square-foot indoor facility designed to dramatically expand year-round opportunities for recreation, wellness, education, and community connection.
Everyone. The Center is being designed to serve children, teens, adults, older adults, families, athletes, community organizations, and people with a wide variety of interests and abilities.
Our first priority is completing Phase 1, which includes the turf, walking track, multipurpose flooring needed to open the building to the community.
Phase 1A will then provide the equipment needed to fully activate those spaces, including netting and equipment for activities such as baseball, basketball, pickleball, volleyball, lacrosse, and soccer.
With the completion of Phase 1, we will be fully functional for all of our community programming and fitness classes in addition to a major expansion of offerings for the community.
Like nearly every major construction project, costs have changed significantly since this project was first envisioned. At the same time, we have continued to listen to our community and adjust the project based on community feedback.
Indoor turf was one of those priorities. We modified the project to include it and developed a phased plan that allows the center to open sooner while continuing to build toward the complete YCC vision as funding becomes available.
Not at all. Recreation is an important part of the expansion, but the vision is much broader.
Future community rooms will provide space for educational programs, cooking, arts, workshops, social activities, games such as mahjong, youth programming, meetings, community partnerships, and other opportunities for people to learn and connect. We are also excited to offer opporutnites to bring in large venue events like craft and boat shows.
Yes. The existing fitness center will remain an important part of the YCC campus and will complement the recreational and community spaces in the new facility.
Yes. Accessibility is an important part of the project, with accessible entrances, restrooms, and program areas designed to welcome people of varying abilities.
The initial funding was a combination of unassigned general funds from Yates County Legislature, a grant from Empire State Development Corporation, grants, donations, and other fundriasing efforts. In addition, we received local contractor contributions including portions of their labor and material to keep cost at a minimum.
Ongoing funding will be a combination of grants, donations, fundraising efforts, and other sources of support, in addition to revenue generation through structured leagues and tournaments.
The YCC is a community-built organization, and continued philanthropic support is essential to completing each phase of the project.
Not yet. We are continuing to raise the funds needed to complete the current phase and move forward with future phases of the project.
Every gift, large or small, helps move our expansion closer to the full vision for the Yates Community Center.
Absolutely. Individuals, families, businesses, foundations, and community organizations can support the project through campaign gifts, sponsorships, and naming opportunities.
A pool remains part of the YCC’s long-term vision. It is not included in the current construction phase, but the overall plan preserves the possibility of bringing community aquatics to Yates County in the future.
Our existing outdoor amenities remain an important part of the YCC. Phase 1 will also include the restoration of green space for a sport field. The campus includes our trails, pavilion, playground, outdoor basketball and pickleball courts, and other outdoor recreation opportunities.
We will continue sharing construction milestones, photos, campaign updates, and important announcements through our website, newsletter, and social media channels. View the project timeline.
We would love to hear from you. Contact the Yates Community Center at development@yatescc.org.
Your Contributions Will Leave a Mark
We are deeply grateful to the individuals, families, businesses, foundations, and community organizations who believe in what the YCC can mean for Yates County.
To show our gratitude for your contributions, our supporters will have the chance to showcase their names and logos throughout the center, and leave your mark for generations to see.

Construction Updates

We have refined the path forward to reflect both rising construction costs and what we have heard from our community. One message was especially clear: Yates County wants indoor turf. We listened.
Our updated Phase 1 prioritizes both indoor turf and multipurpose flooring, along with the work required to obtain our Certificate of Occupancy and open the doors to the community.
